Casino Antiguo - Arte y arquitectura
Old Social Club ("Casino Antiguo")

Old Social Club ("Casino Antiguo")

It was built in 1922 by architect Francisco Maristany y Casajuana.

It is the transformation of an 18th century “palacete” (small palace). Currently, it is utilized in numerous private and public events such as meetings and banquets.

The building has a very notable character, marked by its volume and the ornamental elements that give it distinction and elegance.

The main façade is terraced, it begins with the tower on the corner of Enmedio street and steps down in height to the second floor level. The opposite corner of the main façade also has a tower that absorbs the change of heights with the façade that faces the garden.

The ground floor differentiates itself from the rest of the building due to its treatment as a base, with baseboards throughout and horizontal grooves on its facing. The deliberate separation of this floor is created by the balcony with a balustrade that marks the beginning of the upper storeys. On these floors, the vertical hollow areas are reinforced by ornamental stone elements.

The Casino Antiguo is a very meaningful building due to its function, location and excellent remodel. It is one of Castellón’s most representative buildings, as well as being the first major project of such a outstanding architect like Francesc Maristan y Casajuana.
